BlueActionAA presented at Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference 2025

Project Description

The BlueActionAA project was presented at the Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference (ASPC) 2025, held in Galway, Ireland, on November 13. Organized by the Atlantic Strategy and the Government of Ireland, the event brought together European institutions, national and regional authorities, project leaders, and researchers to reflect on five years of progress under the Atlantic Action Plan 2.0 and discuss future alignment with the European Ocean Pact.

Project Coordinator Oliver Wilson from the Marine Institute delivered a presentation on BlueActionAA’s mission to empower community-led action across the Atlantic and Arctic regions in efforts to restore and protect marine and freshwater ecosystems through cascade funding, technical assistance, and mentoring.

Oliver Wilson outlined the cascade funding framework with two main components:
Community-led actions: Supporting communities to pilot and implement innovative solutions for ecosystem restoration.
Transition Agenda: Developing roadmaps, plans, and projects showcasing the feasibility of scaling restoration initiatives.

The project fosters a participatory approach supporting long-term commitment while demonstrating measurable progress toward the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030.”

He also unveiled the upcoming community-led action open call, detailing financial support opportunities available to local authorities, NGOs, research groups, coastal communities, and citizen science initiatives across eligible Atlantic and Arctic countries.

BlueActionAA’s participation at ASPC 2025 reinforces the project’s commitment to engaging the Atlantic community in collaborative action for ocean restoration.
